I would love if we could have a bigger toot limit, this would be so nice for longer toots when needed.

This has been requested a few times, along with other kinds of customizations, though ultimately we’ve settled on keeping things aligned with their default configurations. To some people 500 characters is too many, and to others 1,000 is too few. There’s no way to please everyone, so the fairest approach is to stick with the defaults!
